A New River...Run Through It!
NY Times -"The Grand Canyon of Oregon"
Dreams on the Fly is proud to announce the Smallmouth Bass trip of a lifetime. We are now permitted by the Bureau of Land Management to float the Owyhee River from Rome to Birch Creek.
This is a stretch that whitewater enthusiasts know well, for it has numerous class III, & IV, waters and almost none of the trappings of the modern world -
NO ROADS-NO ACCESS-NO PEOPLE
This is a wilderness trip, but really not roughing it. No freeze dried food - we'll eat in style the whole way, imagine 100 degree days and ice cold cran-raspberry slushies while you float leisurely down a slow stretch of the river. Because we practice "leave no trace" we also make arrangements to pack out all of our trash, including human waste (but don't worry....we go GREEN all the way).
The Smallmouth bass fishing is very much like fishing for trophy trout on, for instance, the Harriman Ranch section of the Henry's Fork. In fact, strip away the need for drag-free drift, matching the hatch, reading the rise forms, or careful reading of the water; forget about stealth, or light tippets, or all of that nuance, and it's EXACTLY like fishing for trout.
Stripped of subtlety, skill and nuance, fly fishing is reduced to its essence - a total kick in the you know were! If you can cast your fly far enough to hit the water, you are likely to catch a fish. Maybe not a fish on every cast, but on enough casts that you will soon cry UNCLE to the fish, and just enjoy the massive and exquisite scenery (this is a photographers paradise). The fish are rarely big - 14 or 15 inches is a really good fish, 10 inches more typical - but they fight with spirit & attack a fly savagely...continue.

Everything your fly fishing heart desires: Guests have the opportunity to fish two ranches in every trip. The fishing is a true Western Sampler. At the main ranch in DeBeque you’ll sight cast to brookies, browns, rainbows and cuttbows on one of 30 spring creek beaver ponds. Wade fish up to six miles of the legendary White River on the K-T in Meeker. Test your skills on one of three private Spring Creeks. And enjoy a guided drift boat fish on the Colorado or the Roaring Fork...Continue

continued...The days tend to blur together on the river - removed from clocks, computers, cell phones, or any other means of telling time other than the movement of the sun across the sky, and your raft down the river, it doesn't take long to simply stop marking off the days. Relaxing, listening to the birds, frogs or simply the quiet of the Green Dragon Canyon. This section of canyon is characterized by rhyolite rock formations interspersed with basalt, both rising near vertically, to tower 500-1500 feet above the river - which might be no more than 20-30 feet wide in spots. Indeed, at times, the canyon walls leave only a small sliver of blue sky showing overhead, and rarely give you more than 100-200 feet of forward visibility before the next bend obscures the view downriver. Our trips on the Owyhee are 5-6 day floats and you only need minimal clothing, light-weight rods and a sleeping bag. Dreams on the Fly will handle everything you need to make your experience on the Owyhee a trip of a lifetime!
We only run 3 trips per season beginning mid June & ending the first part of July...be sure too contact us soon for further information!
